Patrick Page – Inmate Penpal #091212-0345
September 12, 2012 ¤ Male Inmates Age 46 - 50, Prison Penpals Serving Life
These are words I describe myself as being.
Compassionate, sincere, artistic. I’ve been locked-up for 24 years and my journey has taken me from the streets of Chicago, inside the court rooms, to death row and back. The Governor of Illinois commuted my sentence in 2003. I’m now serving a life sentence, and that makes me look at life and how I live it in a whole new perspective. It has also given me many experiences and life lessons to share.
I spend most of my time drawing and painting. I’ve done many oil paintings and pencil drawings, but I enjoy working with all mediums. When painting or drawing I always try to allow for an element of mistery, a looseness or emotional space that a person themselves must fill. The details of a story, feeling and intent are all supplied by the person, not me — and this way they become part of the picture.
I strive for each of my drawings and paintings to have a multiplicity of meanings — not only my own, but the meaning each person will bring to them. To my mind, a picture is most successful when it enables the person to engage in a personal dialogue or relationship. Changing from day to day and from year to year, as all things change. I also enjoy doing bible studies and reading my bible. I try to stay in good shape spiritually, physically and mentally.
There are things in life which are inevitable, and I am powerless to control them; the sun will rise and set, the tide will come in and go out, the seasons will change, the birds will fly south to winter returning in the spring, and the catepillar will transform into the beauty of a butterfly. Somehow I feel reassured by this because many other things in life are so transient — so momentary.
I’m looking for friendship that will develop into something lasting. and precious, just as the catepillar will transform into beauty. I believe that true friendships are ordained by God. They are the union of two spirits destined for an everlasting happiness. Thus, I hope you’ll become the star of my life which brings me light in this dark world and warmth when I need it.
I’m looking for the promise of renewal, the joy of living and the peace of mind which comes from sharing and caring. A shoulder to lean on in times of stress. I can’t think of anything more to add at this time. So, until I hear from you, I wish you the best of health and send you my deep and everlasting friendship.
