I am 40 years old and much different than the person who came to jail nearly 16 years ago.

In less than four years I’ll be rejoining society; but one much different than I left in 1997. Early in my incarceration I began to prepare myself for release by gaining an education and a trade.

Hello, my name is Steve Hipps.

I am currently serving a 196-245 month sentence in the NC Department of Corrections. My projected release date is April of 2024. I hope and pray that my health and spirits hold up during the coming years.

My main objective in signing up with the Inmate Outreach Program is to make new friends on the outside that know and understand that not all people in prison are bad. Yes, we have made mistakes or we wouldn’t be here, but, deep down we’re still decent and my wish is to meet new people who can forgive these mistakes and therefore won’t judge me. I pray
