Hello, my name is Shirley Guynn.

I am 48 years old and am from Mount Airy, North Carolina. I would love to write to anybody who wishes to write to me. Either male or female, my greatest wish is for friendship. I have been alone for a very long time. I stay so very lonely in this place, there is nobody to write to me.

These are words I describe myself as being.

Compassionate, sincere, artistic. I’ve been locked-up for 24 years and my journey has taken me from the streets of Chicago, inside the court rooms, to death row and back. The Governor of Illinois commuted my sentence in 2003. I’m now serving a life sentence, and that makes me look at life and how I live it in a whole new perspective. It has also given me many experiences and life lessons to share.

I spend most of my time drawing and painting. I’ve done many oil paintings and pencil drawings, but I enjoy working with all mediums. When painting or drawing I always try to allow for an element of mistery, a looseness or emotional space that a person themselves must fill. First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Major Keith Tolbert. I am 49 years old, single, with one beautiful 7 year old daughter. I was born in Houston, Texas. I grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with my mother after my parents divorced.

I left home at the age of 17 and started a life of my own back in Houston. My parents raised me to be a humble and respectful person. When a boy becomes a man, the decision he makes in life are his own.

I take full responsibility for the wrong I have done in my life. Several times in my life being at the wrong places at the wrong time have lead me to incarceration, even as I sit here facing a 35 year robbery sentence that is currently on appeal to be overturned.

I believe that all my stumbles have become building blocks. I have finally turned my life around and want to live

I am writing this hoping to find someone who understands or maybe trying to understand the trials that I now face as far as incarceration goes.

I don’t want pity (not at all) because this has been the best school I have ever been to. I have been able to learn much in jail because there are fewer distractions than everyday life can throw your way. If you can understand that then we are on the same page.
