Donnie Dacus – Prison Penpal #071513-0251
July 15, 2013 ¤ Male Inmates Age 41 - 45, Prison Penpals Serving Life
Who am I?
Well, the short answer is found in my poem, “The Song of Bo Deug Cailech”. The short answer is I’m a Thespian, a Marine, an Ovate-Druid, and a Dacian. The long answer is too long to condense into eight-hundred words. But if you choose to write you’ll find that my life is an open book for you to read.
I am a military brat. I was born and raised as an Air Force dependent. I grew up on R.A.F. Woodbridge, England, not coming to the united states until 1984 at the age of sixteen (talk about culture shock!). Living in England shaped my characteristics, mannerisms, viewpoints, and attitude; as well as my passions, interests, hobbies, and other activities which I enjoy.
My characteristics are greatly influenced by my belief structure. I am a Druid of the Ovate caste. I live my life by the teaching found in the Druidic Triads, the teachings of the ancestral lore, and the Celto-Dacian code of chivalric conduct, for lack of a better phrase. The downside of my belief structure is that I don’t suffer fools or abusers.
On the flip-side, England and the English culture defined everything else. I’m passionate about theatre. I spent every moment I could there, either backstage or on one of the tech crews until I became a stage manager or in the audience. This leads me to the ballet, opera and the fine arts. When I wasn’t in the theatre, or a museum, I was hiking a nature trail or in a church doing brass rubbings. Except for Sundays, that was the day you could fine me on Portabello road.
Other than my Druidic and cultural studies, my hobbies tend to be of the artistic nature. I enjoy woodworking, corn dollying and beadwork. I spend a lot of my free time in here cross-stitching. I used to enjoy ballroom dancing before I was incarcerated, but that isn’t a skill set that is useful in here. While I’m not into American style sports, I do enjoy European football, cricket and rugby. My other hobbies are the atypical reading, movies and PBS. I’ve included a poem entitled “Hope” that will give you some insight into the workings of my mind.
So, what am I seeking in a pen-pal? I’m seeking someone who has an accepting personality and is open to giving me a chance. I don’t care if you are male, female, or transgender; heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. Your height, weight, age and race are just the package that your personality comes in. It is not up to me to judge your package. It is not your package that will attract me to your personality. Without an attractive personality Venus of Urbino looks won’t get you a second glance. The only thing I can ask of you is that you are comfortable with who you are internally and externally. Just be you and allow me to know the person behind the public mask.
So, what kind of relationship am I seeking and what do I hope to accomplish with this ad? I’m hoping to establish a relationship(s) that will allow me to re-enter society on a firm foundation. The Board of Parole hearings has demanded that I establish “family and community ties” before I will be released. I no longer have a family and haven’t had a community since I left England. So that is what I’m seeking with this ad, a family and a community.
It is my hope that I will be able to enter society with a support group and the knowledge to function in today’s high-tech society. There were no cell phones, ipods, cd’s, dvd’s, or even the internet when I entered prison. I am going to be lost when I’m released and I will need a guide. Other that that, I’d just like somebody to talk to. For the past twenty years I’ve had little to no contact with the outside world.
At the moment I receive two pieces of personal mail a year. It has been that way for the past five or so years. Life gets pretty lonely sometimes.
