Tae Wook Yoon – Inmate Penpal #072412-2342
July 24, 2012 ¤ Male Inmates Age 31 - 35
Hi. My name is Tae and I’m a Korean-American looking for some new friends.
I’ve been incarcerated since I was 16 years old for something I am truly ashamed and remorseful for and for which I can never truly make up for. Because of that, I have spent all my years trying to become the best version of me that I can so I can do as much as possible to make amends.
To that end I’ve spent my time in all the educational and other programs available to me. I’ve earned my GED, a Bachelors in behavorial science, a Masters in professional studies, and even learned to fix computers (although now its easier to just buy a new one). After all I’ve learned, I’ve realized that there is always more to learn, so I stay grounded and continue to study on my own.
I’m a fairly reserved person at first glance, but I can be quite outgoing once I get comfortable with people. I’m open-minded, optimistic, patient, and see the best in others. I was a shy kid growing up but that is something I’ve worked on. Now, I’m self-confident but not overly so. I’m still not the type of person that likes to be the center of attention, which is a good thing I think.
I come from a large extended family which maintained traditional Korean values alongside modern American ones. Although I was born and raised in NYC, I also identify strongly to Korean history and culture. But I probably could not live in Korea and in that sense I am more Americanized.
I am very close with my parents and two younger brothers. Family is very important to me and I’ve been blessed to have their unconditional love and support.
I’m looking for genuine friendships. I realize that genuine friendship takes time to build, but I am willing to try and I have the time. I want to meet interesting people from all walks of life. Life is too amazing and diverse to intentionally limit ourselves to one slice of it. That goes for everything from the people we meetm to the things we try. I am looking specifically for females to write because I already get to interact with men every day.
I’m a person of varied interests. I love the outdoors and all its activities but also city-life and all it has to offer. For pure pleasure nothing beats science fiction for me. Most of my reading is practical though and consists mostly of business and finance related books with the occasional history, biography and self-help/motivational book. My favorite music is classical, house, techno, and most of the 80’s and 90’s for nostalgia reasons.
If all goes well, I’ll be home by June 2017 and possibly even six months sooner than that. Once released, I plan to work diligently for a few years till I save enough money to start my own business. I know I can be a success and I’m very motivated to be. Not because I value money so much, but because I see it as a means to an end. I want to contribute and make a big difference in peoples lives.
I hope you will write me and this will be the beginning of a long and genuine friendship. I believe our relationships with each other make our lives meaningful and we can all use more meaning in our lives.
Please help share me on Facebook and Twitter!
