Daniel Labbe – Inmate Penpal #021112-1209
February 11, 2012 ¤ Male Inmates Age 36 - 40
Greetings everyone!
Thanks for checking out my profile. I figured I would just try this for fun and see what happens. I’ve been busy lately by being involved with positive activities and helping out my fellow inmates, but it would be nice to meet with some new people, people who are not involved with the prison system.
I’m trying to use my time in prison as a chance to overcome the issues that got me here and become the best person I can be. So far I’ve been able to accomplish a lot. Although I would never want to come to prison, I’ve been able to turn it into a unique opportunity to work on myself and help others. What a great place to learn about personal empowerment, inner freedom and compassion.
Some of the ways I’ve been able to stay active improving myself and helping others include: creating and running a weekly personal development group called ‘Mindful Living’; participating in a public speaking club known as ‘Toastmasters’; becoming a facillitator for the ‘Alternatives to Violence Program’; authoring an inspirational blog called ‘MyQuest’; and creating a personal development cirriculum which I am now putting into a book form.
Prisons can be lonely, negative, and sad places to live. Many of the people here feel hopeless, abused, alienated, and angry. In other words, we are a deeply wounded community in need of healing. Like anyone else, all the people in prison want is to suffer less and find some joy in life. The problem is that most of the men and women who end up in places like this never learned the healthy coping skills required to get their needs met effectively.
Instead, through neglect, abuse, addicted families, injustice and poverty, they learned to get their needs met in other ways. This is why I ask people to be open to the idea that all negative behavior is the result of unsettled attempts to relieve suffering or to get one’s needs met.
Anyway, I do my best to help others out and keep a compassionate, mindful attitude, but it can be tough sometimes. It’s hard to keep up the energy required for this work, which is why I’m looking to meet some new people. If you are caring, spiritually/emotionally mature, and looking for an opportunity to reach out, I would like to hear from you. Letters from supportive, friendly people carry such a great, uplifting energy in places like this, and I could use a boost every now and then.
I’m not looking for any serious relationships at this time. I only want to connect with others who share an interest in spiritual or personal development and helping to make the world a better place to live. If thats you, drop me a line and we will chat about it.
Thanks again for checking out my profile. May awareness be your home and peace be your guest.
