Hello, my name is Steve Hipps.

I am currently serving a 196-245 month sentence in the NC Department of Corrections. My projected release date is April of 2024. I hope and pray that my health and spirits hold up during the coming years.

My main objective in signing up with the Inmate Outreach Program is to make new friends on the outside that know and understand that not all people in prison are bad. Yes, we have made mistakes or we wouldn’t be here, but, deep down we’re still decent and my wish is to meet new people who can forgive these mistakes and therefore won’t judge me. I pray that by you reading this you’ll open your heart and offer to be a friend.

I was born in the mountains of NC, near Ashville, so as a young boy I grew up hunting, fishing and camping. The best part though was just being outdoors with my friends and family. I graduated from High School in 1981 and was married six months later. I recommend to all the younger folks out there to wait longer to get married, enjoy life some first.

My ex-wife and I have two wonderful children and three grand-children. Between my parents, children and cousins, I have a great support team out there that I love dearly.

I hope the old saying is true; “That you’re never too old to learn.” If all goes well, I want to further my education by taking some classes the Department of Corrections offers. Horticulture, Cabinet Making, Computer Training, Computer Repair, and just a few that I am looking into.

Last but not least, they offer a dog training program that I would truly love to get involved with. If you didn’t guess, yes I love dogs!

I hope by your reading this that you’ll be interested in writing to me. I enjoy making new friends and one never knows, you could turn out to be that someone special I’ve waited my whole life for.
